Full Version: Information on ACMA licence data base

Should our names and addresses be publicly available on the ACMA licence data base? Anybody can look up the database and see who might have some valuable equipment in their house, or handhelds that might be useful to crims. Information could also be used to locate nearby ham stations to lodge frivolous interference complains.

Am I being paranoid?

I fully understand and agree.
I'm not aware of the facts, but I don't think we have a choice as it stands ATM.

You can provide a PO box address and that is what appears when you query the register. I have a PO box anyway so no issue for me to use that.

Totally agree re privacy and a security risk, however its been like this for donkey's years. Something do to with the ACMAs Act I was told i.e. they have to publish the data.

When it first happened, I took out a PO box. PITA and quite an expense, because the licensing stuff is the only thing that its used for.

Check with your local radio club. Some offer their members use of their PO box as the mailing address Smile

Is a bit of a worry I agree, however has been like that for a long time.
I questioned this with ACMA.

Apparently under the legislation they operate under they are required to make the data publicly accessible.

At least that's what they told me.
