Hello All,
I am considering having a play with JTDX, in the spirit of experimentation and self-learning...
After installing it, I realised that it will be a blank sheet - there will be no record of previous QSOs and therefore JT Alerts will not warn of "B4" contacts.
I gather JTDX uses logfiles with the same names as WSJT-X so you can copy the files between applications. While this will work it seems problematic to me.
Has anyone tried to use a Windows hard symbolic link to fool JTDX into using the file in the WSJT-X folder?
A hard symbolic link *should* work unless the application is doing some oddball stuff - I think it is unlikely as the .adi files are simple text files.
The only other issue I can see is if JTDX and WSJT-X were trying to use the file concurrently. This is unlikely as I struggle to use one application at a time, so running both won't be a thing.
Can it be done?
A supplementary question or two.
WSJT-X creates two log files wsjt-x_log.adi and wsjt-x.log with similar content. The .log file does not have the adif headers.
Does JTDX create both files? Which leads to the question; would it need two symbolic links?
It appears JTDX doesn't create any log files until it is up and running, so I can't simply look to see if it has both files.

has anyone had any luck using IRC's in VK? |

Looking for advice from those who have more experience with QSL-ing than I have. In the past I had collected a huge number of the OLD IRC's from contacts with JA stations on SIX but must admit I never tried to use any, then all of the older ones went end-of-life so just put them in the house fire one night.
I have recently received a few of the modern IRC's from some JA stations and thought I would try and use one as an experiment. My local Australia Post outlet tried to scan it a number of times and then told me with some authority, if it does not scan they cannot accept it.
Now I know VK is a part of the International Post agreements (forgive me I cannot recall its proper name) so it makes me wonder if others have found a way to make use of IRC's when posting QSL's overseas?

gday all
My JTDX 2.2.159 has lost the power output reading.. not the slider itself.
New computer windows 11 and the actual reading like 20w etc no longer shows up when moving slider
Old computer windows 10 showed the actual power as a number when moving slider.
Any ideas why on this new install?
thank you

I have been toying with the idea of replacing the ageing FT-7800 in my ute with something new.
The QYT KT-9900 is of interest because it is a remote unit with everything on the mic.
Additionally, the price point is good. In a couple of days Aliexpress is having a sale and a couple of sellers will have the radio for around AUD$125.
As I dug around looking for a genuine FTDI based programming cable they would come in at around AUD$90 including delivery.
Seems odd that a programming cable would end up almost the same price as the radio...
Maybe I'll just leave the FT-7800 be. It hardly gets used around here anyway.

I promise to get better with posting here with WIA related events.
Last night we conducted a Teams session with affiliated Club Presidents. I think it went pretty well. Unfortunately it was rather short notice, moved at the last minute due to some football match being played on Wednesday night, and it appears, we missed a number of email addresses.
The session was recorded so if any Presidents that missed out or want to view un-edited get in touch - vk4ea@wia.org.au
We will be doing another in a few months, and we apologise for those that missed out, it was not intentional.
Cheers,
Peter - VK4EA / KQ4PS

1:1 Balun for 6m |

Recently I decided to use some of my vast amounts of spare time (as if I have any of that...) to hang a dipole for 6m in a tree.
I have it tuned and can hear some beacons.
I don't yet have a balun for the dipole. Although I have toroids, coax, connectors, a NanoVNA and have worked out how to S21 sweep a balun, I do not have a starting point recipe for a balun on 6m.
Now I guess I could start from scratch, pick a toroid, wind some coax on it and test it, then rinse and repeat until I suss it out but I am, on the whole, lazy.
I have both 31 and 61 material ferrites.
Does anyone have a starting point recipe?
