Signal source for 23cm |

I need a signal source for 23cm so I can continue to work on my evolving setup when the local beacon is off air. Anybody got a fairly simple circuit? I would also be open to buying a unit if somebody has a spare one.

Hi All,
Has anyone had any success with FT8 on 10m?
I've had the rx on for long periods without a single decode. Obviously I've never got a reply to a CQ.
Does anyone use it, or am I just deaf?

Swedish hams now licence exempt. Why not VK? |

In the Southgate ARC news (always a good read) it is reported that AR in Sweden is now "license exempt" and all that is required to get on the air is a certificate of proficiency and a call sign that are issued by the Swedish Amateur Radio Society.
I know I am poking the bear, but if it can be done in Sweden, why can't the same thing be done in VK?
I have been actively promoting ham radio among a group of retirees that I belong to but the most common issue for them is the cost of obtaining the license and the annual fee thereafter. You might say that compared with a lot of recreational things, these costs are not high, but almost all of them are only on the aged or service pension and don't need the impost of another annual fee.
Would the wheels really fall off the ham radio cart and the ionosphere fall down, if individual licenses were not required in VK?
I have noticed that there maybe a possible downside to the Swedish decision though. Another press release says that output power has been reduced to 200 watts for license-exempt stations but I don't know how high it was before.

Trial: only initial posts available to Guests |

There is trial software in place that allows only the initial post in each thread to be available to Guests i.e. visitors not registered and logged in.
The software is largely untried and untested but it should force any actual Forum members to log in to read the remainder of the posts in the thread - rather than just visiting as Guests (which quite a lot seem to be doing). It should also encourage periodic Guests to actually become a registered user/member via the normal registration process.

VKCC Groups IO
Many yahoo groups have moved over to the Groups IO format. We have setup a groups.io account
for the VK Contest Club.
The advantage of Groups IO is listed as: - Integration with other services, including: Github, Google Hangouts, Dropbox, Instagram, Facebook Pages, and the ability to import Feeds into your groups.
- Businesses and organizations can have their own private groups on their own subdomain.
- Better archive organization, using hashtags.
- Many more email delivery options.
- The ability to mute threads or hashtags.
- Fully searchable archives, including searching within attachments.
The founder of Groups IO was the originator of the Yahoo groups platform Mark Fletcher.
To join the VKCC Groups IO email reflector simply: email vkcc+subscribe@groups.io
There are currently around 30 VK and ZL contest types on the email reflector.
Have a great day

This will be just me not being able to find something I suspect, but is there (well, I thought I saw), a post or similar describing the size of various attachments that can be posted?
Tried the search function and looked at 'Help' but didn't find anything.

To go from here to there |

What would take you to go from here (general) to there (contesting)
We are all time poor even those who are retired.
Would a series of short, maximum two hour contests, interest you enough to get the radios fired up ?
Alan VK4SN has created a special contest scoring website used for the Trans Tasman and the RD this year.
It allows all sorts of fun events like a Where's Wally contest - where the major multiplier is working a guy called Wally
Put your thinking caps on and lets create some reasons to get on air - short and sharp is better than not at all
