Contact cleaner - recommendations? |

Just wondering what people are using re contact cleaner for the older style rotary switches mainly.
I used to use the Richard Foot contact cleaner, but the crimp seals on the bottom of their cans are not the best and they tend to let go of the contents in mildly elevated temperatures.

Registration for JOTA JOTI 2018 now open
The time has come for registration of each Scout Group for the largest Scouting event of the year. Registration can be done at the worldwide site www.jotajoti.info/sign-up-jota-joti-2018/ Registration for this years JOTA/JOTI event provides your Group access to the International Jamboree page. You will be able to see at a glance, all the registered stations from around the world, and take part in the largest Scout event to be held each year. This also gives you the opportunity to contact other stations around the world before the event and setup a dedicated time etc. to make the contact. Start planning your event now!
Your National JOTA JOTI coordinator can assist you with getting in touch with one of the local Scout Groups. Its not difficult to setup an event at your local Scout Hall. All you need is a couple of Cubs and Scouts and a Scouter or two to organise the weekend.
No need to run the entire weekend either; you choose what days to run according to your groups schedule. The busiest times are on the Saturday.
Brett Nicholas VK2BNN is Scouts Australia National co-ordinator for JOTA. Lorraine OHare VK2FICQ is Girl Guides Australia National JOTA-JOTI Co-ordinator.

US Tech Licence Exams - in VK |

`FIRST TO TAKE U.S. TECH TEST -- BUT WHERE?
The new exam for the U.S. Technician license made its debut - but not where you might think. John Williams VK4JJW has that story.
"In case you were wondering where in the United States the first new Technician exam was given with the new set of questions - well, keep wondering. It wasn't in the U.S at all but in Australia.
Two candidates, Ward and John, sat for the test at a hangar in Bankstown Airport in Sydney at 8 a.m. local time on Sunday, July 1. But wait - it was still Saturday afternoon in the States! Getting a jump on things nonetheless were VEs Julian AG6LE, Bob AC1CZ and Brad AK2QQ as part of Oz-VE, which gives the U.S. licensing tests across eastern Australia. Better still, Julian tells us, both candidates passed the test. The early bird gets the ... license.

Hello to everyone,
Not sure if there is somewhere else I should say hello and introduce myself. My name is Dave, I was first licenced about 1985, gave AR away 11 years ago thru lack of activity by others mainly, for some reason I made a return over a year ago, and at times I wonder why, I have decided to give 2 mtrs SSB a try, and this is probably the most ridiculous thing I have ever tried on 2 Mtrs, that being CW on 144,100, not that my speed is good now, 10WPM, but one day it might just happen that I get a reply in cw, then again I might win a million dollars one day also.
It seems a pity that 2 mtrs is so inactive, maybe it's more of a summer activity, I find the antennas interesting to build, and easy to handle unlike HF monsters which I can't be bothered with now, I sold all my antennas and good gear off when I last quit AR.
I had enjoyed in those years portable, particularly QRP, even at my age being 80 yrs, portable is still fascinating, but now I need to drive to the TX point, not walking so good now.
I do remember what I think was some of the best DX activity back in the 80's, portable, mobile antenna, 30 watts ssb, 10 watts CW, virtually worldwide contacts and at times difficult to go QRT with stations trying for contact before I closed down, I'm sure I won't see those conditions again.
So I think I have said enough and probably bored everyone, but us olduns do live back in the past.

LogView for WSJT-X software |

I have now released a free software package which is far improved over my previous WSJTXLogViewer code of a few months ago. It may not look a lot different to the user but certainly functions a lot differently internally. It uses exactly the same file formats as its predecessor so just continues with existing files.
It will only work with WSJT-X 1.9.x or later and requires a specific setting to be made within that software.
The new web page at http://www.vk4adc.com/web/software-proje...for-wsjt-x provides details of the software, settings plus a download link for the updated package.
One of the differences is the inclusion of a map image arrangement that displays the logged callsign (or its grid - user selectable) provided that the logged exchange contains grid square info. This software integrates data from the PSKRepView software to provide a larger list of callsigns versus grid squares to do lookups from. there are 3 map image options available depending on how much screen 'real estate' is available to the user.
Please advise any bugs encountered to 'doug at vk4adc dot com' with a message subject of 'LogView Bug'.

Hey WSJT-X Gurus,
I've read through the manuals and searched a fair bit on the interwebs but I still can't work out the difference between the Operator and the Name field.
Has anyone worked it out?
Cheers
