Fascinating Smile Thanks for this.

This should be published elsewhere also e.g. AR - where is Roger Harrison?

Edit: I remembered seeing these on You Tube:

Very good - I particularly liked the second one Smile

With the first link I posted, what's the significance of the CW WQAB964 at the 4:13 mark?

RE: Radio Reminiscences - VK5PJ - 14-08-2020

Hi Damien,
the signal he shows at that time is not an OTHR signal as far as I know, it was shown as an adjacent signal but not related in my experience. I would imagine things have moved on considerably but could not ever imagine a Defence department asset ever giving a CW ID Big Grin

WQAB964 appears to be this mob:

https://sailmail.com/

They do HF SSB email apparently (amongst other things).

RE: Radio Reminiscences - VK3RX - 14-08-2020

Interesting that ident came up right in the centre of the passband when the JORN transmission finished and at about the same strength, hence my query.

RE: Radio Reminiscences - VK2CSW - 14-08-2020

I wonder if sailmail's instruction for HF SSB use caused someone to think JORN signals were sailmail ones?

"Check all of the frequencies by scrolling through the stations and frequencies in the pull down menus.  Your radio should be remotely tuned by the PC/modem to a frequency that is 1.5 kHz below the frequency that you select via AirMail, if you hear a periodic “chip, chirp” or a periodic “rasping” sound at 2-4 second intervals, that’s somebody else using that station.    Listen carefully, and when the station is idle then click the left-most green button (from the Terminal Window)."

RE: Radio Reminiscences - VK3RX - 14-08-2020

Could very well be the case Smile Smile
