The ABC Catalyst program also had a program about solar storms a couple of days ago - Solar Storms: A Warning from Space - you can watch it on the ABC's Iview site.

I didn't watch it, so no idea how good or bad the program was.

I watched it, well worth a look.

This shot from NASA may be of interest.

Yep, I ended up watching it a couple of hours after posting, well worth it.

Stayed pretty well 'on message' without all the hype you sometimes get in programs like this.

Found the segment about the large antenna array over in WA particularly interesting.

I watched it too.

When that SKA site was selected I was loosely involved, because they wanted overflying aircraft kept away from the area due radio emissions. That would have involved some work redesigning air routes away including dog legs around the site and extra track miles for aircraft, something not popular with the aviation industry (additional miles = additional fuel burn = increased operating costs).

I believe they were advised the frequencies aircraft typically radiate with their radio, nav, weather radar etc. which they apparently could notch out, and as far as I am aware, no air routes were changed.
