3.4GHz Microwave activity day - VK3ALB - 12-09-2016

Back on August 22nd Gavin VK3HY suggested a 3.4GHz activity day for the 28th of August. Even with the short notice a number of people took advantage of the opportunity and got their gear out to play radio. Here is my belated report of the day.

It was very pleasing to hear everyone on air and great to hear that once again our ZL friends joined in the activity. I along with Chris VK3ACG and Garry VK3VLA set up at Mt Anakie where we heard and worked the following stations;

Mt Dandenong: Gavin VK3HY, Rob VK3MQ
Mt Buninyong: Ian VK3AXH, Anthony VK3CAP (First microwave adventure),
Ian VK3IDL, Bob VK3BNC
Barrabool Hills: Chas VK3PY
Geelong: Cal VK3ZPK
Kinglake area: Bernard VK3AV
Camberwell: Alan VK3XPD
Mt Ridley, Craigeiburn: Damian VK3KQ: Ralph VK3LL
Mt Tassie: Ralph VK3WRE
Loch: Peter VK3APW

In ZL, Brian ZL1AVZ, Harry ZL1BK, Simon ZL1SWW and Stephen ZL1TPH all got on the air.. Ralph ZL1TBG was to >be on but never heard.

We heard faint traces of Matt VK3PP's keyer from Hamilton but he could not hear us. We missed Craig VK3KG who had some issues with his receiver. By all accounts Craig put a strong signal into Melbourne. We also took 2.4GHz with us specifically to work Bernard VK3AV on his new transverter and to allow Garry VK3VLA to operate microwaves under his recently acquired standard call. On 2.4GHz all three of us worked VK3APW, VK3AV and VK3HY.

I suggest the next event (whenever that may be) should be 2.4GHz as it allows the standard call operators to join in the fun. For the record, standard call operators are permitted to work on 1.2GHz, 2.4GHz and 5.7GHz - certainly enough bands to keep them busy on field days.

Thanks to Gavin, Rob and Ian who got the ball rolling on another fun microwave activity day.
