D-Star ONE satellite launch 28Nov2017 - VK4ADC - 17-11-2017 D-Star ONE Launch on November 28 D-Star ONE is the first private German CubeSat and the first D-Star communication spacecraft worldwide. D-Star ONE will be launched on November 28, 2017 from Vostochny launch site jointly with the Meteor-M ?2-1 mission of the Russian State Space Corporation ROSCOSMOS. Final launch preparations are currently being performed. The mission carried the Russian Meteor M2-1 satellite the primary payload as well as a Canadian Telestar experimental satellite, and 17 other secondary payloads, including D-Star One. According to reports, a fault occurred in the sophisticated and autonomous Fregat upper stage, which, after separating from the launch vehicle, inserts multiple spacecraft into their respective orbits. A so-called space tug, Fregat has been in service for nearly 2 decades. Russian space agency Roscosmos is investigating the Fregat failure. I'm in don't care mode when it comes to dstar which seems to be a commercial system and hardware manufacturer specific. Ian VK3YCQ |
