Amateurs unfairly maligned... - VK3TU - 07-11-2016 Anyone who saw The Age website tonight will no doubt have seen this article: theage.com.au/victoria/ Now I know one shouldn't confuse Fairfax Media with "fair facts" media so I take what I read with a grain of salt, but both the writer and the "sources" the article quotes would do better in making friends of amateurs rather than maligning them as this article does. I'd hazard a guess that if these "sources" bothered, they would find plenty of amateurs both willing and capable of helping them track down this idiot! Common sense would suggest that the more verified data that is fed into the investigation there is, the quicker it will progress. Bert VK3TU Re: Amateurs unfairly maligned... - VK2AOH - 08-11-2016 Typical sensationalist journalist who would hardly have a clue about the technicalities of the subject. Unfortunately there is obviously a nut case with a radio and agree the sooner the authorities track him down the better. Re: Amateurs unfairly maligned... - VK2CSW - 08-11-2016 With all due respect, I suspect the "offending word was used as an adjective, not a noun. That is to say when the journalist used the word amateur they were using the meaning of "not professional". The story is full of holes and a definite lack of understanding, which likely means they would have no idea what "Amateur Radio" is, let alone use an abbreviated form of the name.
