Australia Day Contest

VK Shires 2018 Australia Day Contest

Tossing around the idea to run a second VK Shires Contest in Summer aligned with Australia Day with AX Prefixes and all -

All bands from 160 to 70cm - Noting that 10MHz 18Mhz and 24Mhz cannot be used

Allowing repeat contacts every three hours....Owing to time differences in East to West would most likely be a 20 hour contest or perhaps a 24 hour local time contest...

The USA Field Days are very popular and promote the hobby - they are in summer - so the concept can work

Thoughts?

Maybe the greatest challenges to activity might be if Australia Day is already booked up with family commitments - plus - the Summer VHF/UHF Field Day is very close in dates.( See FD Dates Algorithm eg 2018: 13-14 Jan , 2019: 12-13 Jan, 2020: 18-19 Jan, 2021 14-15 Jan. ) Those participants could be too FD'd out and not want to  (or not allowed to ) participate.

You would need to run it past Mike 3AVV re VKCL supporting it before you go too much further, though if it ran the same rules as the Shires Contest then it probably would be relatively easy to insert the support in the software.

Two hour or three hour rework ?   If things are quiet then the 2 hour rework rule is good and you keep busy / involved (eg during the TT this last weekend, there were periods of no one to work that you hadn't already worked (or could hear to work)).  Three hour rework rule can get very boring if participation is low.

The VHF-UHF Field Days switched from 3-hour rework period to 2-hours in 2016.
