The reason I ask is I could always hear it when I had my IC7000, weak but always there. Now I have an FT817 and I have yet to hear it. Perhaps the FT817 is a tad deaf.

You have confirmed my worst fears. I have a 2m brick with a built in preamp that works well so I might hook it up and see what happens.

Hi Nev,
Make sure you are using the correct antenna socket (menu item 07) and remember that the front socket is not as good as the rear socket. I recall measuring around 3dB attenuation compared to the rear socket on a rig I had on the bench.

I didn't tune properly, I should have tuned down to hear the sig.
