I guess many were expecting more from the 818.
The max output power is possible only at 13.8V which rules out running off the internal battery. In that regard it's no different to the 817 which has a similar limitation. In many cases I'm not sure what the extra power would do unless you needed that extra little bit to drive an amp to full output.
TCXO and battery are things that an 817 user can overcome reasonably easy with after market options. However, it is good to see that the TCXO is finally standard rather than optional.
60m? Well for VK I think we'll have a while to wait before that is useful.
Yaesu probably would have been better off calling it FT817X or V2 or MkII or something rather than FT818 which kind of gave the sense that we might be in for something astoundingly different.
