Discovered my son-n-law has access to a lathe and all the right gear. Looks like a solution is at hand! ;-) Thanks Peter!

Hope you get more than one made as that arrangement seems like a sure-fire way to shear the 5/16" segment as the HF whip sways around.  Maybe a really good tough steel is called for too....
