The other issue is that the contest support, and hence internal logging, in WSJT-X has not been tried by many to see how sequential serial numbers might work, and be logged. I haven't see any DOCs about the available contest support - maybe I will have to "google it".
I might try changing the standard messages option in WSJT-X during the week and see what I can make it do.
Because you would probably have to change from the standard message set to an alternative set up with 6-char grid, it would be easy to get it wrong in the heat of contest exchanges.
Anyone else done contest exchanges with WSJT-X and can provide info ??

I did some "digging" and WSJT-X has a EU VHF contest option (Ft8, FT4) which exchanges 6 digit grid locator and Number.

CQ TEST G4ABC/P
G4ABC/P PA9XYZ JO22

Maybe the way forward is to "adopt/adapt" this format for digital contacts.
At the moment with field day the digital part is pretty ambiguous as to whats required and how to do it.
If it was clear what format was to be used, there may be a higher takeup.
In particular for Operators like myself in VK6 or country areas where there is only 6m where we have any chance of making more than a handful of contacts - SpE Gods permitting!
