Hi Allan,
You certainly have enough aperture to be successful ! The backend 'pulsar processor' will be the hard bit - although inexpensive. You already have achieved the expensive bit.
Have a read of the two links I gave and if you have any further questions please don't hesitate to ask. AFAIK I am the only amateur radio astronomer to have received a pulsar signal in VK/ZL so far. If you read about the successful amateurs on the NSG link I gave http://neutronstar.joataman.net/ ), you will see that a fair proportion are EME-ers looking for an extra challenge.
