Motorola DP 4000 external antenna

Has anyone managed to work out a way to connect an external antenna to a Motorola DP 4000 Hand held? They use a specific Moto connector that only presents the centre conductor. The person holding the radio becomes the counterpoise so I have read. Not sure what happens when you clip it to a belt and use an external speaker mic.

All knowlege on this appreciated.
