2020 Spring VHF/UHF Field Day - 28-29/Nov2020
#1
From the page at   https://www.wia.org.au/members/contests/vhfuhf/

The Spring event will be over the last weekend in November, the 28th and 29th.  Spring 2020 - 0100 UTC Saturday 28 through 0059 UTC Sunday 29 November (differs in VK6).

Contest Introduction
The VHF-UHF Field Days provide VHF-UHF operators with the opportunity to "head for the hills" and see how far and how many they can work.

The Field Days have separate sections for single and multiple operator stations. The duration of the Field Day is 24 hours, but there are also 8 hour sections for operators who may not be able to camp overnight. Most club stations prefer to operate for the full 24 hours.

The Field Days also generate plenty of activity from home stations, so there is also a separate Home Station section.

All contacts must be simplex: contacts through repeaters or satellites are not allowed. There is plenty of FM activity, but one feature of the Field Days is a high level of SSB activity.

It is possible to do very well with only modest antennas if you pick a good hilltop. Another option, if your station is easily transportable, is to operate from more than one location during the contest period.

Aim Of The Contest
The overriding aim is to get away for the weekend and have fun! But next after that, the aims are:
[Image: bullet.jpg]   to encourage more activity on VHF and microwave bands;
[Image: bullet.jpg]   to encourage people to work greater distances than usual by operating portable, and
[Image: bullet.jpg]   to provide opportunities for people to activate or work into new grid squares.

For those who use VKCL for logging in the VHF/UHF Field Day events :

VKCL Version 4.13
1st November 2020

Spring VHF-UHF Field Day is on in a few weeks (... only days away now...), and COVID-19 restrictions permitting, it may be possible to have groups operating in the field as usual.

If you use VKCL for logging, please update to the new Version 4.13 for two reasons.
Firstly, the WIA web site was upgraded to a secure server which broke the VKCL log upload facility. While the WIA VHF/UHF Field Day Log File Uploader facility is now easy to find and works well, it requires you to find the correct log in your computer, and it happens almost every time that logs for wrong season are uploaded and even for wrong contest. Using the VKCL built-in facility, which has been revised to work with the secure server, ensures that the correct log is uploaded, and after the upload, you are directed to a page on the WIA web site to verify that your log was received.

Secondly, a bug has crept in while "improving" the processing of SOAPBOX comments which causes VKCL to crash when an attempt is made to create the field day log. No data is lost, and if that happens, download and install this VKCL version and then create the log.

Download the latest release from https://www.mnds.com.au/vkcl/

Just a side mention now :

The WIA web site is currently not available at present (Monday 7.30AM, 23rd Nov) so I can't access the Spring FD rules for info about digital mode contacts.

Has anyone tried using the likes of FT8 via WSJT-X software coupled with VKCL for logging ????  How are sequential QSO numbers handled in both packages ???
