Tomorrow is the 23rd, so a great excuse to participate in 23-on-23!

Continuing the successful approach will see op's in SE VK4 focus attention on either the north or south paths during the two assigned time slots as detailed below.

Phone/CW
Start time: 10:00z / 8:00pm AEST / 9:00pm ADST

Stations in BNE and more southern stations beaming north
08:00pm - 08:30pm / 10:00z - 10:30z
QRG: 1,296.100MHz

Stations in BNE and more northern stations beaming south
08:30pm - 09:00pm / 10:30z - 11:00z
QRG: 1,296.100MHz

Digital
Start time: 11:00z / 9:00pm AEST
QRG: 1,296.225MHz (Mode JT65)

These events are designed to develop the level of activity on 23. Please do not hesitate to share with others who you know have capability and see if we can continue to grow the numbers of participating stations.

Activity is not limited to stations within SE VK4, everyone is very welcome to participate.

I will be on at my usual portable location on top of Buderim (weather permitting) and will have 23cm, 2.4Ghz, 3.4Ghz and 5.7GHz with me but not expecting anything on the later 2.
I believe there is a Redcliffe radio club meeting on as well so maybe the number might be a little bit down tonight.

I have just re-erected my Field Day microwave antenna/transverters on a rotatable pipe such that they are about 6-7M above ground, and most importantly clear the peak of the shed.. They won't be up permanently but it will hopefully give me a chance to see if I can hear/work anything other than the beacons on 2.4/3.4/5.7 and 10GHz.

PS Ignore the tribander traps/elements and wire dipole elements in the background plus the radial for the 10M whip in the foreground...

I plan to be able to re-do these arrangements if I can't get out for Field Days etc and have to work from home.

I am currently unsure as to the health of 1296 gear but will also keep an ear on 144.1 or 144.15 and 146.500 FM for liasion purposes. Maybe a different freq is standard in which case, please advise. Maybe just advise anyway Tongue

The plan is to be up in the shack by about 7.30PM tonight and will turn on the liaison radios then.

PPS - just confirmed the receive side of 1296 is working but unsure of tx side ( I suspect low RF output power).

A good turnout last night & tnx in particular for the effort made by the portable stations. Worked on 23 cm all with strong signals were VK4ADM, VK4MJF, VK4ALF/p, VK4HF, VK4LHD/p, VK4CZ, VK2MAX & VK4KAY. On 13 cm VK4LHD/p, VK4CZ & VK4KAY.

23-on-23 was a bit of a failure here last night: could just hear VK4CZ and VK4AFL in the noise on 23cms, similarly on 13cms, but neither strong enough to work. The Sunshine Coast & Bribie stations were not audible at all. I can hear the VK4RBB microwave beacons on all bands 23 to 3cms but it is sited just over 20KM away so I should be able to.... There is no elevation gain to help recover the terrain highs north of me so maybe I am destined to only work north on the lower bands (6/2/70) from here. Finding the 23cm bearing was off by about 35 degrees late into the session probably due to rotator offset didn't help either.

I have low transmit power on 23 but not sure what the solution is. If I increase RF drive, distortion appears. More testing required to find the cause, hopefully with a solution too.

Hi...I have noticed an antenna which can be seen just north of McDonald Rd on the western side.It appears to have a braced structure on top. Looking at Google maps satellite view, it is located in the northeast corner of a block containg four large tanks.
