The latest edition of the WIA journal will be in members' hands from this coming week. As if you can't tell already, the theme for this issue is the Antarctic adventures of Australian amateurs.
Rex Moncur VK7MO has written us an article about his time with the Antarctic Division. While outlining the why's and wherefores of Australia's interests and operations down south, Rex provides some history on the involvement of Australian amateurs in Antarctica. Further to that, we have a series of "tell all" stories from seven Australian amateurs who spent a year down south, beginning in what's known as the "intrepid era" of the early 1970s, then through the 80s, 90s and 00s. To top that, we have a story from one amateur down south right now - Paul Daniels VK0PD at Casey Station.
But wait, there's more! This issue, we launch a new, regular feature - Newcomers' Notebook. Didn't that used to run in AR mag decades ago? Well, yes. PubCom member, Jules Perrin, VK3JFP, has mbarked on reviving Newcomers' Notebook and updating content for today's audience. The original series was written by Rod Champness, VK3UG, who has endorsed Jules's initiative. As before, the content of Newcomers Notebook covers topics directed at people starting out in amateur radio and will answer questions on subjects related to electronics and communications. The subject for this first one is Power mains safety and electrical hazards in communications equipment.
Issue 5: look out for it in your letterbox "real soon now". The online issue will be available for download around the same time.
