Nick Watling VK4YT OAM DFC died last week aged 90. He was a nationally and internationally recognized expert in the conservation, restoration and operation of WW2 and post-war military radio equipment and examples of his work are on display in military museums and the like across Australia and overseas, including the beautifully restored and operating sets in the radio section of the RAAF Townsville Aviation Heritage Centre (currently closed to the public for a major upgrade). He was a RAAF pilot who was awarded the DFC for gallantry whilst flying Caribou aircraft in Vietnam. After leaving the RAAF he flew with the Royal Flying Doctor Service out of Cairns base and retired as their chief pilot.
