WIA Election Ballot - Financial Members only

Just a reminder that the ballot paper for the 2017 WIA Election is included with your copy of AR Magazine this month (March).

The insert also contains self-generated statements from those up for election. Careful reading and interpretation is needed to ensure that you are voting for those persons who you consider will make the best administration for the WIA and its members into the future.

Please ensure that you complete the ballot paper and submit it well in advance of the closing date (remembering that AusPost can take 7 days to deliver) ensuring that a maximum of seven (7) names are left unstruck.

Note that you leave the names you want to elect are left unmarked while you place a line through those you do not wish to elect.

A draft version of the proxy form was sent to the printer for inclusion in AR magazine. The form was different to the version published on the WIA website.

The difference between the forms has caused some confusion, and discussion about their validity on social media. One form requires the member to sign, and the other relies on the members membership number to confirm the members identity. Both forms rely on the membership number and callsign to confirm the members address, rather than a specific entry on the form.

It is anticipated that proxies on either form will be accepted by the AGM Chairperson, however, to ensure all proxies are accepted, members are asked to resubmit their proxy on the new form unless they have previously included their address.

Resubmitting your proxy on the new form ensures your proxy will be accepted in all circumstances.

The new proxy form is attached to this email and is also available for download from the WIA website using the following Link The correct revision date is 05/03/2017.

If your proxy is received by the WIA office on the earlier forms, and if your address is not included, the WIA office will attempt to contact you and ask you to resubmit your proxy.

The WIA apologises for this inconvenience, however under the circumstances we have taken this action to remove any doubt.

A message from the 2017 Wireless Institute of Australia Board election returning officer.

Dear Members of the WIA.

I have had the pleasure of working with many members of the WIA over the last 6 months or so, and am impressed by the enthusiasm and dedication of those with whom I came into contact.

The sheer number of members who took the trouble to record and send back their ballots was also impressive, with around only 1% being deemed invalid for one reason or the other.

The hard work of those volunteers involved in the counting also needs to be commended. When it became obvious that around 1500 ballot papers had been returned, necessitating the recording of over 10,000 votes, the call went out
at short notice for volunteer counters. The response was overwhelming.

The count took place over two nights, between 6.30 and 11 on the evening of 28th March and from 5.50 p.m. to 1 a.m. overnight on the 29th March.

I must also commend the staff at the head office, who worked so hard to bring the ballot together in a timely fashion. A massive task, often requiring quite lengthy attention out of hours and over the weekend. Whatever I asked for they
just seemed to be able to produce without any fuss.

The members of the WIA have every right to feel proud of, and have confidence in their office bearers.

The successful candidates for election to the Board, and the number of votes polled, are as follows:

I wish them every success in the work they have ahead of them. Under the constitution, up to half of the board will be required to resign and face re-election next year. After that election, hopefully to usual 2 year tenure will return.
