Station Logs...

Hi all,
I do not have a current copy of the regs, so I ask the question. Does an amateur operator have to keep a log book?
I ask this question as many years ago when I was first licensed, it was mandatory that a log was kept.
In recent years I have been told that a log was optional.

What is the answer?

There is no requirement to keep a log according to the current LCD however some will suggest it's a good idea for a number of reasons.

You can download the latest version of the regs from the WIA website whether you're a member or not.

The main one to look for is "Radiocommunications Licence Conditions (Amateur Service) Determination 2015" but they are all relevant.

altho I do keep a log book which is separate from the electronic logs, I do not think it is required under the law to do so. In the desk log I keep all transmissions even tho that they are not completed so basically I know when my radio has been on and when it has been transmitting. If I receive a complaint I can with the desk log say I was not transmitting at that time or my radio was not on at that time.

Thanks Gents,
I have been feeling a bit guilty about not keeping a log.
I kept one from when I was first licensed in 1958 up until last year and it seems to be a habit I can't break!
I think I might resume the habit. Wink
