Licence Register - ACMA calls for comment
#1
You like your licence to be listed in an official government database, don't you?

Well the Determination that requires the ACMA to keep the Register of Radiocommunications Licences (RRL) will expire in October this year, unless it is revoked and remade before that date. The ACMA is proposing to remake the RRL Determination in a new instrument without any significant change before 1 October 2017, so that its ongoing effect is preserved. As is required, the ACMA is seeking public comment. Read all about it, and have your say, here: http://www.acma.gov.au/theACMA/remaking-...ermination

I can't say I was impressed when the ACMA or it's predecessor started publishing my home address on the web, and privacy issues seemed to not apply.  In addition, this resulted in the flow-on effect of the address being published in the Callbook. I think about the same time the option of supressing such detail from the Callbook was removed also.

This forced me to take out a PO box which only gets used for ACMA stuff, and now that my licence is current for 5 years the frequency of mail means looking for a more cost-effective option. I believe some radio clubs offer members the option of using their PO box as their licence postal address.

The ACMA needs to know the home address as the station location, but the option of suppressing the home address details from web publication (and as a result, the Callbook) should be available.

I gather this requires us as individuals to file submissions, or does the WIA intend to poll members to gauge their opinion?
