WHY WE PAY THE WIA SUBS

Just on the WIA Website - they have announced the appointment of a Treasurer and an assistant Treasurer -

"The WIA Board has appointed Chris Hendry VK3PAT as WIA Treasurer. The decision was made at the Board meeting by teleconference on 25 October. At the same time, Jeff Tubbenhauer VK5IU, was appointed at Assistant Treasurer. Both will commence immediately. "

"Following up on previous submissions on amateur licence conditions to the ACMA in 2014 and in April this year, the WIA’s response to the proposed Spectrum Plan update seeks access to new bands at 70 MHz and 920 MHz, in addition to the new global amateur band at 5.3 MHz – 60 metres – agreed at the World Radiocommunication Conference, WRC-15, last November. In addition, the WIA is seeking primary status for 50-52 MHz and extensions to the 160 metre band and the 80 metre DX Window. "

All good news. Now the naysayers about WIA matters might quieten down.

Maybe I need to start planning for adding a 5.3MHz dipole and maybe a 70MHz yagi as well. I can't help but wonder if the 70MHz allocation would only be FM only or would it possibly be SSB and digital too. Low band VHF (70-85MHz) radios might even be worth something again. I guess time will tell (that is if we get it).

Watch out for a VHF/UHF Field Day rules reconfigure if we do eventually end up with both 70 and 920 MHz allocations Big Grin Big Grin

Personally, I would have to say regarding the proposed band on 70MHz that one would hope that there is no FM on it what so over - Surely the past 40 years of usage by Mobiles should have given enough research and knowledge - What has not been done (in VK) is narrow band and digital

That I think will be very interesting - and yes Doug Yagi design is in the pipeline - May even have to sort out a transverter :-)
